Perspectives on South Sudan - possibilities and needs of a new state
tisdag 20 september, klockan 16:00 – 17:00, sal F11, Stockholms universitet
This winter, 99% of the people of South Sudan voted for independence which lead to a new state being born on July 9th 2011, the Republic of South Sudan. After decades of fighting and two civil wars with about 2.5 million people killed, South Sudan now proceeds from independence struggle to nation building. Will it be possible for the north and the south to reconcile over the borders and what will happen to the large oil reserves in South Sudan?
The Stockholm Association of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with the Red Cross Global Group Sudan invites you to hear Gunnar Ström the chief delegate from the International Red Cross and manager in Juba, South Sudan talk about his mission and the challenges that lie ahead of the new state.
The seminar will be held in English.
